The Adriatic Sea is a small arm of the Mediterranean Sea that runs from the northwestern coast of Italy to the eastern coast of the Balkan Peninsula. It is approximately 800 km long and 200 km wide with an average depth of 252 meters. The Adriatic Sea is bounded by Italy to the west, Slovenia to the north, Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the east, and Albania to the south. The sea covers an area of approximately 139,000 square kilometers. Some of the major ports in the Adriatic Sea include Venice, Trieste, Rijeka, Split, Dubrovnik, Bar, and Bari. The sea is a popular destination for sailing, fishing, and swimming, and it is home to a wide variety of marine life, including dolphins, whales, and sea turtles.
